Baylor Jack and Jane Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital (Baylor Hamilton) was the first hospital in North Texas dedicated solely to the care and treatment of patients with cardiovascular disease and related conditions. Baylor Hamilton provides inpatient and outpatient services, focused on preventative health care and comprehensive cardiovascular disease management. Our specialty-care units are staffed by dedicated heart and vascular professionals. Working with physicians on the medical staff they provide quality care for each patient.
Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital has also received the Magnet Award for “Excellence in Nursing Services” from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital joins a small group of fewer than 5 percent of U.S. hospitals in achieving this coveted distinction.
Electrophysiology and Pacemaker Labs
The electrophysiology department specializes in managing the electrical conduction which occurs in the heart, and is recognized as a leader in diagnosing and treating cardiac arrhythmias. Physicians on the medical staff have pioneered many of developments in electrophysiology and are involved in numerous ongoing research projects.
Studies include:
Baylor’s cardiac electrophysiology programs offer a full range of clinical procedures, including:
Non-Invasive Cardiology and Non-Invasive Vascular Care
The Non-Invasive Laboratory is accredited by The Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL) and The Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation for Echo (ICAEL)
The specialists at Baylor’s echocardiography and nuclear cardiology programs use innovative diagnostic technologies.
Services include:
Vascular Surgery
Vascular surgeons on the medical staff have been leaders in the endovascular treatment of aortic aneurysms and other endovascular applications. These procedures are minimally invasive, usually require less recuperation time and have potentially fewer complications that the traditional open approach to aortic aneurysm repair. The advanced facilities at Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital will help promote ongoing development and applications of new technology, providing quality patient care and striving for the most favorable outcomes in the treatment of vascular disease.
Imaging Services
The Baylor Heart Scan is a non-invasive form of the 64-slice CT scan that captures images of the heart at split-second rates. This helps detect the buildup of plaque (calcium) in the coronary arteries. This test, along with other indicators, presents an estimate of the extent and severity of coronary artery disease so an appropriate heart health plan can be developed.
The imaging department at Baylor Hamilton has also been awarded a three-year term of accreditation for computed tomography (CT) as the result of a recent survey by the American College of Radiology (ACR). The ACR awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation.
Interventional Cardiology
Baylor Hamilton features one of the largest interventional cardiology departments in North Texas and is staffed by specialist in the care of patients needing cardiac catheterization and interventional procedures. The physicians have a particular expertise caring for acutely ill patients that are transferred from regional community hospitals.
The cardiac catheterization laboratories are equipped to provide a complete range of interventional procedures, including both standard and investigational therapies, such as:
Cardiac Rehabilitation
The Cardiac rehabilitation program is accredited by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation
Our cardiac rehabilitation program helps heart patients develop a healthier lifestyle plan and is designed to help meet every patient’s individual needs. This includes medically supervised physical activity and education.
Physical activity not only increases the efficiency of the heart and lungs and strengthens the body’s muscles; it also builds confidence so the patient can return to an active life.
Through education, patients can understand their heart condition and learn how to reduce their risk for future problems. We also help patients develop a plan to lower risk factors by participating in nutrition and stress management sessions.
Our cardiac rehabilitation program Lifestyle Education Awareness program (LEAP for Life®) is a secondary prevention education program developed for persons identified with risk factors for cardiovascular disease. The program provides education for cardiovascular patients on nutrition, exercise, procedures, medications and stress management. In this one-day workshop you will learn the latest about simple changes you can make to improve heart health.
Baylor has several specialized support groups providing emotional support for heart and vascular patients and their families.
Caring Hearts®
In the Caring Hearts program, people who are a year past their own cardiac event volunteer to visit a patient before and after a procedure, offering empathy and support. Caring Heart volunteers also support the cardiac intensive care and waiting room staffs.
Wired For Life®
Baylor has teamed up with past implantable cardio defibrillator (ICD) recipients to provide future ICD recipients with support, comfort and answers to their questions. Volunteers meet with the future recipients and their families before and after the ICD procedure.
Heart Well Forum
The Heart Well Forum is a monthly meeting and support group for heart and vascular patients and their families. The meeting features lunch, an educational program and time for social interaction and support.
