Paul Convery, MD 

Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer

Baylor Health Care System

Dr. Paul Convery is senior vice president and chief medical officer for Baylor Health Care System (BHCS) since 2006. In this role, he works with physician and operational leadership to advance health care improvement initiatives throughout BHCS. This includes health care quality improvement, patient safety, health equity, clinical informatics, research, medical education, physician leadership development, managed care, the organized medical staff, and medical group operations. Dr. Convery’s leadership has served BHCS in many ways, one of which was being awarded the National Quality Forum National Quality Healthcare Award in 2008.

Dr. Convery has over 20 years of medical management and health care leadership experience, including serving as executive vice president and chief medical officer of SSM Health Care in St. Louis, Mo., leading them to be the first health care winner of the distinguished Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. Dr. Convery also is a board certified internist.

Dr. Convery has served as the chair of the Provider Council and on the Leadership Network of the National Quality Forum. He has also served on the board of directors of the Institute for Clinical Quality and Value, and on the Education and Research Foundation Board of the Dallas/Fort Worth Hospital Council. He has served on multiple hospital boards and health system boards, as well as other not-for-profit boards.

Dr. Convery graduated from Medical School at the University of Illinois. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and a fellow of the American College of Physician Executives. He received his master's degree in medical management from Tulane University.
