The Heart Hospital Baylor Plano

Mark Valentine is the president of The Heart Hospital Baylor Plano, a 116-bed full-service hospital in Collin County dedicated solely to heart and vascular health care. Located next to Baylor Regional Medical Center at Plano, the hospital is a partnership between Baylor Health Care System and cardiovascular physicians and surgeons who practice in North Texas.

Since opening in January 2007, Valentine has been instrumental in growing and expanding the advanced services at The Heart Hospital Baylor Plano. As a result, the hospital is recognized as one of the top 10 largest heart surgery centers in the country, the largest cardiothoracic surgery programs in the state of Texas, and the busiest heart surgery center in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. 

Under Valentine’s leadership, the hospital has received numerous awards and recognition including a seven-time Press Ganey® Summit Award® for Inpatient and Emergency Department satisfaction, The Joint Commission’s Top Performer in Key Quality Measures, Accredited Chest Pain Center with PCI by the Society of Chest Pain Centers, The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Advanced Heart Failure, Becker’s “Top 50 Hospitals with the Best Patient Ratings”, and The Joint Commission’s Certification for Ventricular Assist Device, Magnet® recognition and most recently The Heart Hospital Baylor Plano has earned the highest rating – three stars – for quality outcomes in cardiac surgery services from The Society of Thoracic Surgeons National Cardiac Database. These three stars were awarded to the Isolated Coronary Bypass program and the Aortic Valve Replacement program.

Valentine brings more than 21 years of experience with cardiovascular physicians and heart facilities recognized for their comprehensive cardiovascular services. He has served as regional vice president of cardiology and vascular services for the Cleveland Clinic Health System Western Region where he was responsible for three hospitals’ cardiovascular programs and two cardiothoracic programs. Before joining the Cleveland Clinic, he served as director of Heart and Lung Services at Fairfield Medical Center in Lancaster and vice president of Cardiovascular Services at St. John West Shore Hospital in Westlake, Ohio. Valentine currently serves on the Dell Healthcare Advisory Council and the American Heart Association Healthcare Forum Council.

Valentine earned his Bachelor of Science degree in allied medicine with a major in respiratory therapy from Ohio State University and a Master of Business Administration in health care administration from Baker College in Michigan.
