Baylor Sleep Center in Grapevine to Offer Free CPAP Clinic, April 25

(GRAPEVINE, Texas, April 7, 2009) – The Baylor Sleep Center in Grapevine will offer a free Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) Clinic on April 25 from 1-5 p.m. to help those who have been prescribed CPAP/BiPAP devices for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea ensure their machines are functioning properly. The clinic is open to anyone who uses these devices, regardless of where their sleep study was conducted.

 

“This clinic will serve as an educational resource regarding the proper use of CPAP equipment,” said Raul Noriega, manager at the Baylor Sleep Center in Grapevine. “It is important for the community to be informed of the latest technological advancements of this form of treatment.”

Obstructive sleep apnea is a serious health condition in which a person has episodes of stopped breaths during sleep. According to the National Institutes of Health, sleep apnea affects more than 12 million Americans. However, a majority of people who have condition don’t know they have it—because they are asleep. If left untreated, sleep apnea can cause cardiovascular diseases, weight gain, memory problems and headaches, according to the American Sleep Apnea Association.
