Karen Stubbs currently serves in the combined role of Chief Nursing Officer and Chief Operating Officer at Baylor Medical Center at Garland. She works as a member of the senior executive team and is responsible for all clinical areas. In her CNO role, Stubbs represents over 700 nurses throughout the facility.
Her main focuses as CNO/COO are process improvement, teambuilding, building culture, education and staff development. Stubbs prides herself in providing care and service to the community by promoting the practice of professional quality nursing.
Stubbs has over 20 years of experience in health care. She began working for Baylor Health Care System in October 2007. She came to Baylor from Medical Center of Plano where she was the Vice President of Nursing Operations. In this position, Stubbs had hands-on experience with successfully implementing a Magnet structure which resulted in the facility receiving the award of Magnet status. Stubbs has also served as Director of Surgical Services at Clear Lake Regional Medical Center and CNO at CHRISTUS St. John Hospital.
In 2008, Stubbs was recognized by the Dallas/Fort Worth Hospital Council and Texas Nurses Association District 4 as one of the Great 100 Nurses.
Stubbs received her bachelor’s in nursing from the University of Texas Health Science Center Houston. After receiving her BSN, she worked in the operating room to start her nursing career. Stubbs returned to school to receive her master’s in business administration from the University of Houston Clear Lake.
