Beth Houser has been at Baylor Medical Center at Grapevine since August 2008, bringing 30-plus years of experience to the position of Chief Nursing Officer. In her role as CNO, she plans, directs, coordinates and evaluates the efficient delivery of patient care for the medical center at the executive level.
At Baylor Grapevine, she has a lead role in developing clinical leaders, with a strong focus on evidence-based practice, quality improvement, recruitment and retention.
From 2005 to 2008, Houser was the system director of Critical Care Services and Telemetry at Scottsdale Healthcare, the only Magnet hospital system in Arizona and one of the few in the nation. While at Scottsdale Healthcare, Houser oversaw a budget of more than $40 million, 600 full-time staff and more than 250 beds in intensive care, diagnostic care, and telemetry areas of three hospitals. Her leadership responsibilities included overseeing construction of intensive care services that opened in November 2007.
Before that, she was director of nursing research and Magnet project leader at John C. Lincoln Hospital – North Mountain in Phoenix, Ariz., which was awarded Magnet status in 2004. She also has worked as a family nursing practitioner and a staff nurse in telemetry, ICU and emergency care. She also worked in the pharmaceutical industry for five years.
Houser attended the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing in Baltimore, Md., where she received a doctor of nursing science. She also holds a master of science as a family nurse practitioner and a bachelor of science in nursing. Houser has guest lectured at many schools of nursing, presented Magnet information at national conferences, and published extensively on both leadership and Magnet topics. She is an active member of the American Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau International, American Organization of Nurse Executives, and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
