Baylor Medical Center at Irving 

Brenda Blain joined Baylor Medical Center at Irving in January 2009, serving as Chief Nursing Officer and Chief Operating Officer. Blain is a member of the senior executive team, representing nursing, pharmacy, laboratory, radiology, quality, and medical staff services.

In addition to hospital operations, Blain is responsible for development and oversight of nursing policies, procedures and standards of nursing practice. As CNO, she represents 420 nurses. She also participates with peers and colleagues across Baylor Health Care System in the development and integration of best practices and standards.

From 2003 to 2008, Blain held various executive positions at Skaggs Regional Medical Center in Branson, Mo. Her latest role was Chief Nursing Officer and Chief Operating Officer. While at Skaggs Regional, she led many successful initiatives including implementing an emergency department through-put project that decreased wait times and improved patient satisfaction.

Blain worked at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Neb., from 1998 to 2003. She began her career there as a clinical nurse specialist in medical-surgical and was then promoted to Assistant Vice President of Patient Care Services. Blain served as second in command for overall direction of patient care services including imaging, pharmacy, cardiopulmonary and nursing departments.

Blain received her diploma in nursing from St. John’s School of Nursing in Springfield, Mo., her bachelor’s in nursing from Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, Mo., and her master’s in nursing from the University of Missouri-Columbia in Columbia, Mo. She is certified as a Clinical Specialist in Medical-Surgical Nursing by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Blain is a member of the American College of Health Care Executives, the American Organization of Nurse Executives, the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists and Sigma Theta Tau.
