Our Children’s House at Baylor and Baylor Specialty Hospital

Kelli Terpstra is Vice President of Clinical Services and Chief Nursing Officer for Our Children’s House (OCH) at Baylor and Baylor Specialty Hospital (BSH). In her role, she oversees the clinical operations for both of Baylor’s Specialty Hospitals. 

At OCH, Terpstra oversees all inpatient clinical services, including nursing and cardiopulmonary, care coordination, social work, intake, the electronic health record, pediatric day surgery, sleep study and physician clinics.

BSH management is inclusive of the inpatient clinical services the LTACH provides (nursing and cardiopulmonary), including the electronic health record activities. In her role, more than 224 staff report up to her as she strives to provide the patients they serve with safe, compassionate, evidenced based care.

Terpstra has been a nurse for 24 years, beginning her career as a pediatric nurse. Prior to her current role, she was a manager in the PICU at Medical City Dallas, a supervisor at OCH and a nurse manager for pediatrics and gynecology surgery at Medical Center of Plano. She also served as director of nursing and director of clinical operations at OCH. She has been with Baylor more than nine years.

Terpstra facilitated the planning, construction and opening of a new wing at OCH in Dallas in 2006 and 2007.  During her tenure, she has assisted OCH in receiving the prestigious Pathway to Excellence Award and the Texas Quality Award at the Engagement Level.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D., and her master’s degree in nursing from Baylor School of Nursing. Terpstra is a Certified Nurse Executive Advances and is a member of the North Texas Organization of Nurse Executives, American Organization of Nurse Executives and Sigma Theta Tau international nursing honor society. In 2001, she earned the Nursing Award of Excellence from Baylor.
