Blood & Marrow Transplant Program 

Blood and marrow transplants are among the most effective treatments for certain hematologic and lymphatic cancers. Baylor Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center features one of the leading blood and bone marrow transplant (BMT) programs in Texas.

You may be a candidate for an adult blood stem cell or marrow transplant if you are facing a diagnosis of certain cancers, including:

  • Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia
  • Acute Myelogenous Leukemia
  • Amyloidosis
  • Aplastic Anemia
  • Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia
  • Chronic Myeloid Leukemia
  • Hodgkin's Lymphoma
  • Multiple Myeloma
  • Myelodysplastic Syndrome
  • Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma
  • Testicular Cancer

Program Highlights:

  • The Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) program at Baylor Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center at Dallas in North Texas' largest program, performing more than 5,000 adult bone marrow and blood stem cell transplants in the past 30 years.
  • Is one of the nation's leading BMT centers in based on the number of transplants performed.
  • Participate in numerous national clinical trials, including those of the National Institutes of Health Clinical Trials Network and pivotal studies in new drug development.
  • Among the first programs in the United States to receive accreditation by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT).
  • A designated Center of Excellence by multiple insurance carriers.
  • BMT physicians on the medical staff at Baylor Dallas performed North Texas’ first bone marrow transplant in 1983 and Texas’ first matched unrelated donor transplant in 1988.

Currently about 70 percent of patients needing a marrow or adult blood stem cell transplant do not have a suitable match within their family and require the services of the BE THE MATCH Registry.
