I need information about...
When a diagnosis of both a psychiatric and an addictive disorder is present, it is referred to as co-occurring or dual diagnosis. Frequently, we find symptoms of both psychiatric and addictive disorders to be present or co-occurring. Until recently, the type of treatment a a person received was decided by determining which of the two developed first. The secondary problem would be treated afterward, or not at all. Today behavioral health best practices are reporting improved outcomes when both problems are treated at the same time.
