Movement disorders can be debilitating and can profoundly affect the lifestyle and emotional health of both patients and families. Patients often must struggle with a loss of independence and the inability to perform even the simplest of routine activities.
As patients need more care, caregivers can experience enormous emotional and physical demands. When these disorders affect children or young adults, families may face long-term financial struggles in supporting severely disabled patients.
The Movement Disorders Center provides opportunities for group therapy to help patients and families adapt and adjust to the physical and emotional demands of the disorders. Regimens of physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy are tailored to the needs of each patient. Various caregiving options also can be explored.
