Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Research

At Baylor Institute for Rehabilitation, our "right-now" research emphasis stems from our belief that reducing pain, finding the most effective medications, and looking for creative ways to support you can help you live a full life today rather than waiting for tomorrow.

In this spirit, our researchers are "clinician-researchers," which means their hands-on patient care keeps our research focus relevant to real life needs.

Anti-Depressant Use

After serious injury, depression can be a major battle. Until now, there has never been a randomized, controlled trial on the use of anti-depressant use in individuals with spinal cord injury.

Open enrollment is under way for this first-ever study of its kind—a collaborative study involving Baylor Rehab, the University of Washington, Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, University of Michigan, and the University of Alabama, Birmingham.

Other Research
  • Our researchers are studying the effects of resiliency and how to increase it following spinal cord injury. We are proud to be publishing the first article on this in the national peer reviewed journal Rehabilitation Psychology.
  • We are accepting enrollment into a multicenter study to examine the effectiveness of Pregabalin for the treatment of chronic neuropathic pain in SCI patients who are at least one year post-injury.
