Interventional Radiology

Minimally Invasive Treatment for Complex Conditions

Interventional radiologists on the Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas medical staff are skilled in the minimally invasive treatment of disease processes that involve veins, arteries and vital organs.

By using long, thin tubes called catheters inserted through small incisions and guided through the body with advanced imaging technology, interventional radiologists are able to deliver treatment without open surgery. Interventional radiology techniques may limit complications and shorten recovery times for a number of conditions.

From gynecological procedures, such as neutralizing non-cancerous tumors of the uterus, to preventing or removing potentially fatal blood clots from critical areas of the body, a wide range of interventional radiology procedures are offered at Baylor Dallas, some on an outpatient basis.

These include, but are not limited to:

  • Inferior vena cava (IVC) filter placement and retrieval
  • Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) treatment
  • Uterine artery embolization for pelvic congestion syndrome
  • Fallopian tube re-canalization
  • Varicocele treatment
  • Comprehensive treatment of venous ulcers and leg varices
  • Stroke
