Treatment

Walking

Analysis in a sophisticated gait (way of walking) lab, as well as physical and occupational therapy, can help patients who have difficulty walking learn alternate ways of moving.

Tremor

Deep brain stimulation (DBS) suppresses tremor by delivering mild electrical stimulation to block brain signals that cause the uncontrollable shaking, rigidity, gait difficulties and other symptoms of some movement disorders.

DBS also may improve quality of life for patients with Parkinson’s disease, Dystonia and patients with Tourette’s Syndrome.

Through the Movement Disorders Center, patients also have access to the expertise and services of:

  • Baylor Institute for Rehabilitation
  • Baylor Research Institute
  • Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas Departments of Neurosurgery, Neuropathology, Neuroradiology and Nuclear Medicine.
