Testis Disorders 

The testicles (testis) are part of the male reproductive system. They are located inside the scrotum and make the male hormones. Disorders of the testis can cause sexual dysfunction, infertility and hormonal imbalances.

Testes Disorder Symptoms 

Each type of testicular disorder can have different symptoms including swelling or pain in the testicles, painful urination, lumps, sexual dysfunction and the inability to conceive a child. You should consult your physician if you experience any unusual symptoms.

Testis Disorder Diagnosis Options

A physical exam is the first step in diagnosing any testicular disorder. If testicular cancer is suspected, blood tests and an ultrasound may be recommended. If testicular cancer is detected, physicians may perform additional tests to determine if it has spread to other parts of the body. Some of these tests include:

  • CT scan
  • Chest X-ray
  • MRI scan
  • PET scan

Testes Disorder Treatment Options

Treatment for testes disorders depends on the diagnosis. Some conditions such as hydrocele may resolve without treatment, but should be diagnosed by a physician. Treatment for other issues such as infertility may require lifestyle changes, as well as possible surgery, medication, hormone treatments and assisted reproductive technology. Testicular cancer can be treated with surgery, radiation therapy and/or chemotherapy.
