Types of Urethral Disorders

There are many conditions that can affect the urethra in both men and women. These include:

  • Fistula
  • Prolapsed urethra (Ureterocele)
  • Urethral discharge
  • Urethral syndrome or Urethritis

Urethral Disorder Symptoms

The various conditions that can affect the urethra can cause symptoms including:

  • Pain during urination
  • Abdominal pain
  • Blood in the urine
  • Difficulty urinating

It is important to see your physician for a complete evaluation if you experience any of these symptoms.

Urethral Disorder Diagnosis Options

Diagnosing any urethral disorders begins with a medical exam. Depending upon your symptoms, your physician may recommend:

  • Contrast tests
  • CT
  • Cystoscopy
  • MRI
  • Ultrasound
  • Urinalysis

Urethral Disorder Treatment Options

Many urethral disorders can be treated with medication and possibly surgery. In some cases, such as fistulas, they may resolve on their own with good hygiene. However, if an infection occurs, antibiotics may be required. For any traumatic injuries that occur to the urethra, emergency help should be sought immediately.
