Reopened Sammons Entrance and Sammons/Collins Hallways

We’re making great progress in the construction and renovation work in and around Collins and existing Sammons buildings. Please note the following construction closures that are reopening:

• The Sammons Cancer entrance on Junius Street will permanently reopen by Aug. 1. This entrance has been closed since April 2010.
• The Collins-Sammons connector hallways on the 2^nd, 3^rd and 4^th floors are open. These hallways each had been closed for periods of construction.

Reminders: Current Closures and Detours

• One-way Traffic on Worth St.  Since May, one section of Worth St. has been closed to eastbound traffic. On-site signage directs traffic exiting Junius St., Garage 3 (under Collins/Sammons) and the Emergency Department driveway to turn right (west) onto Worth St. This traffic detour will continue through October 2010.
• Closure of Worth St. (near the construction site, between Hall St. and Garage 4) may be necessary at times (through October 2010 not March 2011?). These closures will be scheduled during weekends and late-night hours to minimize impact to traffic. The Emergency Department will remain accessible at all times.
• South side construction zone:  The entire south side of Sammons/Collins (facing Worth St.), is an enclosed construction zone. The Garage 3 (under Collins/Sammons) entrance and exit driveways remain accessible.
• Closed entrances:  Baylor Sammons Cancer Center and Sammons Tower main entrances and circle drives on Worth Street are closed through Feb. 2011.
• Open entrances:  The only open entrances are the Sammons Cancer Center and Collins Building north entrances on Junius St., and the side (Junius St.) entrance to the Sammons Tower elevator lobby.
• Valet parking locations:  The Sammons/Collins valet service is located on level P2 of Garage 3 (under Collins/Sammons) and inside Garage 4. Both are accessible from Junius St.
• Patient drop areas:  Patient drop areas are open on the entry level of Garage 4 and on level P2 of Garage 3 (under Collins/Sammons).
• Suggested parking:  Please use Garage 4 or Garage 3 for self-parking or valet parking. Garage 4 may be the faster and more convenient option for ambulatory patients during this phase of construction. During this time, the number of visitor parking spaces and night-time access to Garage 3 is very limited. Construction prevents outside entry to first floor Collins (including the elevator lobby that serves Garage 3) at night (8:30 p.m.-5:30 a.m.).
• On-site signage directs pedestrians and vehicles around the construction zones and closures.
