Supportive and Palliative Care 

Supportive and palliative care provides the following services with physician referral:

  • Advance care planning, including the creation of an advance directive early in the course of a patient’s illness
  • Transitional care planning for later in the course of illness when hospice may be appropriate
  • Assistance with symptom management, such as pain and discomfort

With a physician referral, services are provided in the oncology outpatient clinic, located in Suite 250, by an advanced nurse practitioner (ANP) with expertise in oncology and palliative care. The supportive and palliative care ANP collaborates closely with the attending oncologist or surgeon and has access to additional guidance from board certified palliative medicine physicians as needed.

Supportive and palliative care is not the same as hospice; patients are often expected to maintain active treatment of their disease.
