Diagnostic Techniques 

Larynx Cancer Diagnosis Options

A variety of tests can be used to diagnose larynx cancer, including: 

  • Laryngoscopy
  • Cranial CT Scan
  • Cranial MRI

Mouth Cancer Diagnosis Options

Depending on the location of the suspected cancer, physicians may perform a tongue biopsy or a gum biopsy to diagnose your condition.

Pharynx Cancer Diagnosis Options

Physicians may use special instruments to examine the area deep in the throat for bleeding or masses. If a mass is found, a biopsy will be performed. Other tests may be used to diagnose nasal pharynx cancer including:

  • CT Scan
  • Chest X-ray
  • MRI Scan
  • PET Scan

Salivary Gland Cancer Diagnosis Options

If salivary gland cancer is suspected, physicians may perform a salivary gland biopsy to diagnose the condition.

Sinus and Nasal Cavity Diagnosis Options

Physicians may perform a variety of tests to diagnose cancer of the sinus or nasal cavity, including: 

  • Head CT Scan
  • Nasal Mucosal Biopsy
  • X-ray
  • Thyroid Cancer Diagnosis Options

Many people will develop a nodule on their thyroid at some point in their lives however most of these are not malignant. Your physician may perform tests to diagnose your condition, including:

  • Thyroid Biopsy
  • Thyroid Ultrasound
  • Thyroid Scan
  • Laryngoscopy
  • Calcitonin
