Amyloidosis is a build up of abnormal proteins in the body usually affecting the heart, liver, kidneys, bone marrow, spleen, muscles, intestines and skin. These protein deposits build up and can cause the affected organ to become stiff and not function properly. Amyloidosis can also cause cardiac problems, carpal tunnel syndrome, kidney failure, intestinal symptoms, nerve damage and bleeding.
