Free Workshops

You and your baby will start off on the right foot with our no-fee workshops. There's plenty to choose from for both moms and dads-to-be. And, as always, open house events and tours of our delivery unit are available most Mondays.

Note: Due to demand, Women's Center classes at Baylor Frisco (with the exception of Safe Sitter®) are available only to patients delivering at Baylor Frisco. Please call 214.407.5012 to register or for further information.

Prepared Childbirth

This class is designed to prepare mothers and their support person for the experience of labor and delivery. Topics include relaxation, breathing and support techniques; the labor and delivery process, cesarean birth, epidurals and anesthesia, and pediatrician selection. A tour of the Women's Center is included.

Breastfeeding

Taught by a certified lactation consultant, this class will help prepare you for initiating breastfeeding in the hospital, monitoring breastfeeding effectiveness at home, planning for pumping, milk storage and working while breastfeeding. Both parents are encouraged to attend.

Baby Care

We'll help first-time parents learn the basics of caring for a newborn and what to expect during the first few months. Topics include: diapering, bathing, soothing and caring for your new baby. Additional information on growth, development and parenting is provided.

Infant Safety & CPR

This course covers the most important safety and lifesaving issues related to infants. Topics include baby proofing, water safety and poison prevention. The American Heart Association Guidelines for infant CPR are taught along with hands on practice with manikins.

The CPR portion of this course follows American Heart Association guidelines; however, this will not certify you in CPR.

Infant/Child Safety & CPR

The American Heart Association Guidelines for infant, child and adult CPR are taught along with hands on practice with manikins.

The CPR portion of this course follows American Heart Association guidelines; however, this will not certify you in CPR.

Sibling Class

Children between the ages of 3 and 5 years will learn how to adjust to their new role as a big brother or big sister. They will become familiar with where they will be visiting mom and the new baby by taking a tour of the Women's Center. We will make a craft in class and watch a video about becoming a "Super Sibling."

Safe Sitter®

Safe Sitter® is the only national, nonprofit organization exclusively devoted to babysitting. Baylor Frisco's Safe Sitter instructors prepare 11-13 year old baby sitters to nurture and care for young children and to handle potential crises that may occur while babysitting. Topics range from how to safely obtain babysitting jobs to managing a child who is choking. This is a fun, interactive class for new babysitters.

Car Seat Safety

We'll help you feel comfortable taking your baby home from the hospital safely. This interactive class will teach you about features of your infant seat as well as practice (with a manikin) to correctly secure the infant. We'll follow up by showing you the proper installation of your car seat. Mothers-to-be must have someone with them to install the car seat. Our National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) certified technicians will check the installation for accuracy and help you make any necessary corrections.

Car Seat Checks

More than 90 percent of car seats are installed incorrectly. Don't let yours be one of them. Have your car seat checked by our National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) certified technicians. Arrive with your seat already installed. Car seat checks are held in our parking garage, located on the southwest corner of our parking lot. Our technicians will help you make any necessary changes to the installation of the seat.

Dads Do More Than Diapers

This one-evening workshop prepares men to be dads in all respects, including:

  • Preparation for labor and delivery
  • Newborn care
  • Adjusting to fatherhood
  • Rekindling intimacy following delivery
  • Signs of postpartum depression
  • Recognizing and responding to your baby’s cues
  • Daily care of your baby: bathing, feeding, safety,
    illness and sleep issues
  • Stimulating your baby through play

Our Dads Do More workshop is lead by a male obstetrician and male pediatrician, providing a forum for new dads to express any concerns in an all-male environment.

Grandparent Class

This class is for new grandparents. We'll help you develop your personal grandparenting style along with the many important roles taken on as a grandparent. We'll also show you how to best support your sons and daughters in parenting. The second class of the series will cover infant CPR, safety and child proofing.

The CPR portion of this course follows American Heart Association guidelines; however, this will not certify you in CPR.
