Whether you are recently diagnosed with diabetes or just want to learn how to better manage your condition, Baylor can help. Baylor Medical Center at Irving offers specialized diabetes programs and services for patients with diabetes taught by registered dietitians and nurses. The following programs are offered at Baylor Irving.

Diabetes Self Management Training

This program is held in a group class setting and includes topics to help you manage your diabetes including:

  • What is Diabetes?
  • Healthy Eating
  • Being Active
  • Taking Medications
  • Monitoring
  • Healthy Coping
  • Reducing Risks
  • Problem-Solving
  • Resources for Ongoing Learning 

Diabetes During Pregnancy Program

This program is developed expressly to serve the needs of the woman whose pregnancy has been complicated with diabetes. Education consists of intensive, individual meal planning, instruction in blood glucose and ketone testing, and exercise plans and insulin education as recommended by the physician. This program consist of two classes. Additional follow up appointments can be scheduled as needed for the remainder of the pregnancy. 

Medical Nutrition Therapy

This program is led by a registered dietitian and designed to help you manage and plan your diet to better control your diabetes and  manage your weight. The program consists of two sessions. Medical Nutrition Therapy is also provided to non-diabetic patients who have nutrition concerns.  A physician referral is required.
