Wound Care at Baylor Medical Center at Irving 

Baylor Medical Center at Irving has three certified wound specialist accredited by the American Academy of Wound Management on their therapy driven wound care team.  Evidenced based wound care is provided by therapists in acute care, rehab and outpatient therapy.  A thorough wound evaluation is performed at the initial visit.  A comprehensive team approach is utilized including referrals for vascular consults, surgical debridement, orthotics and diabetic education.

Tests performed during the wound care evaluation include:

  • Ankle brachial index (ABI)-aid in determining healing potential for leg wounds
  • Blood pressures
  • Oxygen saturation levels
  • Diabetic foot filament sensation testing
  • Circumferential lower leg measurement for edema management

Wound care sessions can include:

  • Wound dressing changes using advanced treatments i.e. silvers, Prisma, Promomogram, Hyalofill, Medihoney
  • Vacuum Assisted Closure (VAC)
  • Auotlytic / enzymatic / excisional debridement
  • Arobella Qoustic Wound System for ultrasonic debridement
  • Drainage management
  • Edema management with compression dressings i.e. 3 layer compression wraps, Tubigrip
  • Wound measurements and wound pictures
  • Compression-stocking measurements
  • Patient education

Various diagnoses treated by the wound care team include:

  • Venous stasis wounds
  • Arterial wounds
  • Diabetic wounds
  • Post surgical wounds
  • Insect / animal bites
  • Traumatic wounds
  • Pressure ulcers
  • Wound infections: i.e. MRSA, VRE, pseudomonas
  • Amputations
  • Burns
