Attend a Free Seminar
Our comprehensive, multidisciplinary program takes an evidence-based approach that is designed to give patients the best chance for success.
Upon contacting the Baylor Irving Weight Management Center, you will be directed to one of our free informational seminars hosted by the surgeons on our medical staff and other Weight Management Center specialists. At the seminar, you can learn more about the process and ask any questions you have. We also can help you check your insurance benefits. If you can't make a seminar, you can call us to speak with one of the surgeons on our staff.
If you decide the Baylor Irving Weight Management and Surgery Program is right for you, you will meet with a weight loss surgeon and weight loss nurse on your very first visit. They will review your plan of care, insurance requirements and medical requirements.
You will attend a class that serves as an introduction to the various weight loss surgical procedures available to you and learn about which procedure is right for you. You also will begin to learn about the behaviors that will make surgery successful afterwards.
You will meet with a registered dietician who will conduct a nutritional assessment. Based on the assessment, you will receive a customized dietary plan and learn about good eating habits.
You will undergo a sleep assessment to explore your sleep behavior. If you have sleep apnea or another sleep disorder, you will be referred to a certified sleep medicine physician on the Baylor Irving medical staff.
Group workshops and a support group will help you begin to put healthy behaviors into action. The interactive workshops are hands-on and can be fun.
Surgery.
Within four weeks of surgery, you can expect to lose up to 20 pounds. By six months, your body will begin drastic weight reduction. Within 18 to 24 months, many people lose 70 to 80 percent of their excess body weight because of their weight loss procedure. Individual results may vary.
Regular follow-ups are required after surgery. Depending on which procedure you underwent, the number of follow-ups and frequency varies. You will attend a post-op nutrition class at six weeks, six months and annually, and you will attend support groups focusing on different health-related topics.
Beyond classes and check-ups in the weeks and months after your surgery, the Weight Management Center offers lifetime support to patients, including meetings with your weight loss surgeon.
