The 100 Great Nurses honor focuses on the nurses' qualities as role models in leadership, service to the community, compassion as a caregiver, and significant contributions to nursing. Annually, the Dallas-Fort Worth Nurses Executives and the Texas Nurses Association, Districts Three and Four, make these selections.
"Nursing is a career that involves everything that other fields have individually, says Ortiz, who has been a nurse for 19 years. "As a nurse you have to be many things at once." Ortiz works in the intensive care unit at Baylor Plano.
"I chose a career in nursing because I have always felt that it takes someone special to be a nurse," says Nwachukwu who works in the progressive care unit. "It's a great honor to be selected as a member of the Great 100. It's very satisfying to know that I have touched someone's life."
