In addition to traditional radiation therapy, our oncology team offers MammoSite targeted radiation therapy. MammoSite delivers twice-daily higher doses of localized radiation over a five-day period, allowing cancer patients to get back to their lives as soon as possible.
For some women, reconstruction to rebuild the shape and look of the breast is an important part of a breast cancer care plan. At Baylor Plano, our physicians are experienced in reconstruction and educated in the latest techniques, including:
One of the best ways to prevent breast cancer is to know your risk. Baylor Plano’s new Cancer Risk Assessment Clinic can help.
Here’s how it works:
1. Complete risk assessment form
Women who visit our Women’s Imaging Center will be asked to fill out a risk assessment form. Women can also request a form by calling 469.814.5768.
2. Testing
Women found to be at high risk may consider genetic testing for BRCA1 and BRCA2 to look for a possible inherited tendency toward breast cancer. Other tests can check for genetic abnormalities or abnormal cells.
Additionally, molecular breast imaging, a new screening tool that is not widely available nationally, is offered at our Craig Ranch facility. MBI can help find breast tumors smaller than 1 centimeter that other tests might miss.
3. Options
Women whose testing confirms high risk of cancer can make decisions with their doctor accordingly. These may include:
All breast surgery patients at Baylor Plano can participate in our Preoperative Breast Surgery Program, held once a week. During this orientation, patients receive a tour of the hospital – including the oncology floor and family areas – and meet with an occupational therapist to discuss:
The class ends with an American Cancer Society Reach to Recovery volunteer providing support information and community resources. The program is available to all breast surgery patients by referral. Ask your breast surgeon to call 469.814.5768.
At Baylor Plano, lymphedema therapists provide complete therapy, including:
