Diabetes refers to a group of conditions in which the body cannot produce or use insulin properly, and this causes high blood glucose, or blood sugar, levels. There are three types of diabetes: type 1, type 2 and gestational. Learn about the types of diabetes. In Texas, 1.7 million people age 18 and older have been diagnosed with diabetes, and, the Texas Diabetes Council reports, more than 440,000 more Texans in this age group are believed to have undiagnosed diabetes. A diagnosis of diabetes may raise questions. That’s where we come in. At Baylor Plano, we provide personalized care for people who have diabetes. It begins the moment you arrive, when our diabetes educator will meet with you to explore your lifestyle and help make a plan that will work for you. You’ll also discover you are not alone in our diabetes support and education group, where you can spend time with others who understand and take part in educational programs from Baylor Plano’s diabetes experts. Plus, our diabetes management programs help you learn how to keep your diabetes under control—so it doesn’t control you.
