As a ballet dancer, I am used to analyzing my alignment and posture. One day, I noticed that one of my hips looked higher than the other and my waist indentation was bigger. I showed my mom and we went to see the doctor. The doctor said he thought I had scoliosis and referred me to a specialist, which led us to the Baylor Scoliosis Center.
Our first visit with the physicians at the Baylor Scoliosis Center confirmed the scoliosis, and I began wearing a Charleston brace to help prevent the curve from worsening. The Charleston brace is only worn at night while sleeping to help overcorrect the curve. When I first got the brace, it took time for me to get used to wearing it, and I had trouble sleeping, but with a few adjustments to my brace, it got more comfortable for me to wear. After a few weeks, I was able to wear the brace all night long and I learned some tricks to help me to sleep better again, like using lots of pillows to help position me better when sleeping. In less than two months of wearing my brace, I was even able to take it on a vacation to Disney World, and it was already second nature for me to wear it every night.
I am committed to following my brace program faithfully because I know it gives me the best chance of improving my scoliosis condition. The staff at the Baylor Scoliosis Center really care about me and understand my goals with ballet. I know they're doing all they can to help me achieve my goals and improve my scoliosis. I highly recommend the Baylor Scoliosis Center because they are very knowledgeable and wonderful people who truly care about each of their patients!
