Pre-Surgery

When you are scheduled for surgery, a patient binder will be mailed to you with information regarding all steps up to and after surgery, along with contact numbers for any questions or concerns. Our patient care coordinators will assist you in every way possible to answer all your questions during your treatment.

Two Weeks Prior to Surgery
The Baylor Scoliosis Center patient care coordinators will schedule all your pre-surgical activities including any lab work as directed by your physician at the Baylor Scoliosis Center and pre-registration at the hospital. We will also arrange a visit with the pre-op nurse who will provide you with more specific instructions to prepare you for the surgery day. At this visit, you will receive arrival time and location information.

Please contact our office if you become ill prior to surgery.

The Day Before Surgery
You will be asked to return to the hospital prior to surgery for blood typing and cross-matching in case it should be required.

The Day of Surgery
Leave valuables such as money, credit cards and jewelry at home. Do not wear make-up. If you wear glasses, bring the case to put them in. You may wear contact lenses, but you must remove them prior to surgery and give them to a responsible person for safekeeping while you are in surgery. If you wear dentures, please bring a denture cup or case to store them in prior to surgery and give them to a responsible person for safekeeping while you are in surgery.

Wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing. You may pack a small bag with personal items. A family member or friend will need to hold your personal belongings while you are in surgery.

Arrive two hours before surgery so nurses can take your vital signs, start your IV and complete any required paperwork. Our office will confirm the arrival and surgery times. You will be seen by the anesthesiologist and surgical nurses prior to your surgery.

All surgical cases start in Day Surgery on the second floor of Baylor Regional Medical Center at Plano. Enter through the main hospital entrance, take the elevators to the second floor and upon leaving the elevators on the second floor, turn right and the check-in desk will be on your left.
