Gastric Sleeve 

The sleeve gastrectomy, or "gastric sleeve," is one of the newer weight loss surgery procedures.  The surgeon divides the stomach vertically with a line of staples and removes a large portion of it.  The remaining stomach is a long tube, shaped like a slender banana, which can hold between one and five ounces.  The surgery helps you lose weight by restricting the amount of food that can be eaten at one time.  The gastric sleeve surgical procedure is usually performed laparoscopically.
