Congestive Heart Failure Clinic

Comprehensive Heart Failure Program

Congestive heart failure (CHF) is a major public health concern affecting nearly five million Americans, and 550,000 new cases are diagnosed each year according to the American Heart Association. Approximately 70 percent of heart failure cases are the direct result of damage to the heart from coronary artery disease.

Fortunately, heart failure can be well managed when patients have access to a comprehensive program of medical treatment, education, and rehabilitation. The Baylor Heart Failure Program is designed to meet the challenge of caring for this growing population of heart failure patients. This comprehensive program focuses on improving patient quality of life through medical treatment, vital education, and support services.

Services provided include:
  • Specialized medical and nursing care
  • Extensive education on medication, diet and lifestyle changes
  • Exercise and cardiac rehabilitation
  • Outpatient IV inotropic medications
  • Evaluation for advanced surgical treatment options such as obtaining an LVAD (left ventricular assist device) or high-risk bypass/valve surgery
  • Assistance in affording expensive medications
  • Access to research studies
  • Heart transplant evaluation
  • Social work support and chaplain services
