COPD Health Center
Pulmonology is a subspecialty of internal medicine that specializes in diagnosing and treating lung diseases and conditions, as well as chest infections and breathing problems.
Our lungs help us breathe and exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide so that our body can properly function. Illness or disease in the airways, lung tissue or cardiovascular system, or from neurological or muscular conditions, limit the amount of air that reaches the lungs.
Physicians on the medical staff offer advanced diagnostic and treatment options and often partner with other medical specialties—such as cardiology, neurology, oncology, surgery, and transplantation—to manage and treat acute and chronic respiratory and pulmonary disorders.
At the Center for Advanced Heart and Lung Disease at Baylor University Medical Center, patients may receive comprehensive services all located under one roof which includes evaluation by an advanced disease pulmonologist, diagnostic imaging, lung function testing and lab services. Treatment options include medication management, pulmonary rehabilitation and nutrition services as well as evaluation for lung transplant or other surgical interventions.
People who are at high risk for lung cancer can take advantage of a new program to screen and diagnose lung cancer before symptoms develop through use of a low-dose computed tomography (CT) scan.
Our rehabilitation programs are designed to help you improve your lifestyle and enjoyment in life.
