About Jim Hobbs

 Prostate Cancer Survivor

In the Spring of 2007, Jim Hobbs was in the midst of a successful career at Ernst & Young and was enjoying watching his four daughters embark on their academic and professional careers. His health was the least of his concerns. But at the young age of 52, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.

In September 2008—one day after his 53rd birthday—Jim underwent a prostatectomy and is now cancer free. Jim credits his successful outcome to his diligence in getting an annual physical—his elevated PSA level (an indicator of cancer) was detected just one year after his levels were considered normal.

Jim is now serving as a spokesperson for the Baylor Health Care System Foundation’s EveryMan™ campaign to help raise awareness about prostate cancer research, community outreach and expanded technology throughout Baylor Health Care System. He will be chronicling his journey in an online journal to share his story with others and hopefully inspire them to become diligent about their own health.

You can follow Jim’s online journal entries right here on BaylorHealth.com through May 11.
