(KELLER, TX - July 21, 2006) -A recent national study declares the Dallas-Fort Worth area lagging behind in number of primary care physicians compared to the increasing population. One of the area's most rapidly growing communities is Keller, Texas, where six months ago, Baylor Family Medicine at Keller opened with two primary care physicians: Kyle Phillips, D.O., and Manish Patel, D.O.

The national study, from PricewaterhouseCoopers L.L.P. and HealthLeaders-InterStudy, says that Dallas-Fort Worth has 72 primary care physicians per 100,000 Metroplex residents compared to the national figure of 86 primary care physicians per 100,000 national residents.

"The driving force behind opening this family medicine center was meeting the increasing health care needs of Keller and the surrounding communities," says Dr. Phillips, a family practice specialist and Keller resident. In 1990 Keller's population was 13,683 compared to 34,000 residents by 2005.

Primary care physicians serve as the frontline for health care. "As a family practice physician, we treat general health concerns for the entire family from well-baby visits, back-to-school physicals and adult care for moms, dads and grandparents," says Dr. Patel, who also is a Keller resident. "I particularly enjoy the prevention side of medicine, helping people take care of themselves and staying healthy. We want to avoid future serious medical issues."

The clinic offers these services:
  • General adult and pediatric medicine
  • Wellness and preventive medicine
  • Women's health
  • Cardiovascular care and hypertension
  • Diabetes care
  • Minor emergency care
  • Athletic and school physicals
  • On-site laboratory services and X-ray

In addition to residents of Keller, Baylor Family Medicine at Keller serves the health care needs of Watauga, North Richland Hills, Northeast Fort Worth, Roanoke, Trophy Club, Westlake, Haslet, Saginaw and Justin. The clinic is affiliated with Baylor Health Care System, which has other Northeast Tarrant County clinics in the communities of Southlake, Grapevine, Colleyville and Flower Mound.

Baylor Family Medicine at Keller is part of the Baylor Medical Plaza at Keller, located at Highway 377 and Bear Creek Parkway. Both Drs. Patel and Phillips are members of the medical staff at Baylor Regional Medical Center at Grapevine, a 197-bed, full-service, fully-accredited hospital, serving residents in more than 20 cities throughout this region of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. The hospital offers high-level medical services in brain and spine services, cardiovascular services, intensive care, diagnostic imaging, digestive diseases, women's services, neonatal intensive care, sleep disorders and emergency care. In 2005, Baylor Health Care System reported $314 million in community benefits to the Texas Department of State Health Services.
