Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas Names Medical Director of Baylor Heart and Vascular Institute

(DALLAS, TX-September 8, 2006)-Clyde W. Yancy, M.D., FACC, FAHA, FACP, an internationally recognized cardiologist and heart failure/heart transplant specialist, has joined Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas (Baylor Dallas) as medical director of the Baylor Heart and Vascular Institute. In addition, Dr. Yancy will also serve as chief of heart transplantation at Baylor Dallas.

Previously, Dr. Yancy was a professor of internal medicine and cardiology at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas and served as director of its heart transplant program from 1993 to 2006. He is also recognized for establishing and directing the medical center's heart failure program and cardiovascular institute from 1996 to 2006.
Dr. Yancy received his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine and completed post graduate training at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He holds membership in a number of professional organizations; in addition to his fellowship in the American College of Cardiology, he also holds fellowships in the American Heart Association and the American College of Physicians.
Dr. Yancy is an active member the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation and the American Society of Hypertension. Presently, he serves on the executive committee of the Heart Failure Society of America. Broadly published in the areas of heart failure and heart transplantation, he is also sits on the editorial board of a number of professional journals.
Dr. Yancy brings to Baylor a very rich experience in clinical research and innovation and has been recognized several times as a skilled teacher and educator. In 2003, he was recognized as physician of the year by the American Heart Association for leadership in programs related to their mission.
"Organ failure of any type is a malignancy like no other--not even cancer," explains Dr. Yancy. "There are no known cures for either heart or lung failure. In order to achieve the best possible outcomes for patients, it is necessary to evaluate all therapies and determine which are guided by science and support quality care."
Dr. Yancy continues, "We, at Baylor Heart and Vascular Institute, will strive to move the entire discipline forward such that patients who live with these diseases will benefit from quality medical care, relevant research, and educational programs that are accessible and practical."
Baylor Dallas currently offers clinical services for heart and lung failure through the Congestive Heart Failure program, the Pulmonary Hypertension program, and Baylor Regional Transplant Institute. Research in these areas is facilitated through the Baylor Heart and Vascular Institute and Baylor Research Institute, and both professional and lay education services are embedded within the Baylor Heart and Vascular Institute.
