Baylor Health Care System Names David Muntz Chief Information Officer

(Dallas, Oct. 12, 2006) -- Baylor Health Care System has named David Muntz its new senior vice president and chief information officer (CIO). With more than 34 years of health care information technology experience, Muntz most recently served as the senior vice president and chief information officer at Texas Health Resources for the past eight years. Prior to joining the Presbyterian Healthcare System in 1991, he had a distinguished career with the Wadley Research Institute and Blood Bank. He started as a biostatistician, then held a variety of jobs in data processing, and eventually became CEO of the Institute.
Muntz, a native Texan, holds an undergraduate degree from Columbia College in New York City and a master of business administration degree from Southern Methodist University. He is currently a member of the Texas State Health Information Technology Advisory Council, the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME), the Health Information and Management Systems Society, the Society for Information Management, and has been a speaker for numerous local, state and national organizations. He was recognized as CIO Innovator of the Year by CHIME in 2005 and was listed as one of the "Top 5 CIOs" in the June 1999 issue of Health Management.
