THE HEART HOSPITAL Baylor Plano will open as the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex's first and only freestanding, full-service hospital dedicated to heart and vascular care. (PLANO, Texas - Jan. 26, 2007) - On Monday, Jan. 22, THE HEART HOSPITAL Baylor Plano opened as the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex’s first and only freestanding, full-service hospital dedicated to heart and vascular care. During its first day of operations, physicians performed 10 cardiac procedures.

"As a heart hospital, all of our focus is on providing a full continuum of care for heart and vascular disease in a setting that provides five-star service," said Mark Valentine, president of THE HEART HOSPITAL Baylor Plano. With in-suite service dining, concierge services, oversized guest suites and floor-to-ceiling windows plus a wireless environment, the newly constructed facility has the features of a five-star resort.

THE HEART HOSPITAL Baylor Plano was created through a partnership between Baylor Regional Medical Center at Plano and 86 cardiovascular physicians and surgeons practicing in North Texas. Physicians on the hospital’s medical staff include nationally recognized cardiologists and surgeons. Centrally situated in the heart of Collin County at 1100 Allied Dr., the hospital shares a medical campus with Baylor Regional Medical Center at Plano. The 185,000-square-feet THE HEART HOSPITAL Baylor Plano cost $100 million.

"The communities in this region will have access in one location to quality cardiovascular physicians who can take care of their cardiovascular needs," said Jeff Gladden, M.D., interventional cardiologist on the medical staff and co-founder of THE HEART HOSPITAL Baylor Plano.

Taking on America’s No. 1 Killer
Cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer in the United States, with nearly 2,500 Americans dying of the disease each day. Cardiovascular disease, which includes high blood pressure, coronary heart disease and stroke, claims more lives each year than the next four leading causes of death combined.

"As the population continues to age, the prevalence of cardiovascular disease is making an ever-increasing impact on our community’s health," said David Brown, M.D., interventional cardiologist on the medical staff at THE HEART HOSPITAL Baylor Plano and co-founder of the hospital. "As a dedicated heart hospital, THE HEART HOSPITAL Baylor Plano is concentrating all of our resources on preventing, diagnosing and treating full noninvasive and invasive spectrum of vascular and cardiac disease."

THE HEART HOSPITAL Baylor Plano also will focus on research.

THE HEART HOSPITAL Baylor Plano provides a full range of advanced inpatient and outpatient cardiovascular services, including:
  • Cardiovascular outpatient, interventional and surgical services
  • Non-invasive cardiovascular testing

  • Open heart surgery

  • Atrial fibrillation services
  • Heart failure services
  • Advanced cardiac and vascular ultrasound
  • Advanced imaging technology
  • Cardiac rehabilitation
  • Arrhythmia management and treatment

Beyond advanced technology, including a 64-slice computed tomography (CT) scanner, THE HEART HOSPITAL Baylor Plano has advanced information technology systems, providing a full electronic medical record. All medical information - from entry to discharge - is entered electronically into the patient's record.

Designed for Comprehensive, Comfortable Care
The hospital’s unique design enhances care for patients, who - in keeping with the hospital’s commitment to hotel-like services - are called guests. The facility features a bow-tie shaped design which keeps decentralized nurses’ stations near the guests’ suites and uses the curved shape of the hallways to allow caregivers to have a direct sightline to every guest suite.

Unlike a typical hospital, where patients are wheeled from room to room for testing and procedures, THE HEART HOSPITAL Baylor Plano's design allows guests to stay in their suite for most services. Guests will be admitted, recovered and discharged from the same suite. Each suite easily converts to an intensive care unit environment should the guest’s condition warrant such a change.

The hospital also features separate guest and public hallways, which allow guests to walk at their own pace and stay out of the flow of visitors and caregivers.

Stress-free Services are Just What the Doctor Ordered
The hospital’s all-private guest suites are designed with floor-to-ceiling windows, wood laminate floors, comfortable furniture and a separate living area for family members wishing to stay overnight, similar to a hotel suite. More than just a convenience, creating suites that accommodate family members was a decision made to help in the guest’s recovery.

"We are dedicated to providing holistic care that recognizes the importance of family support," said Valentine. "Guests with families close by enhance the healing process."

Every suite has a flat-screen TV and a personal safe. In addition, room service dining is available to all guests as an online, individualized menu that allows guests and family members to order from the comfort of their suite. If any dietary restrictions exist, the menu recognizes those restrictions. Amenities at the hospital include free valet parking, concierge services and a coffee bar.

"Anything we can do to relieve stress can aid in healing," said Dr. Gladden.
