(FORT WORTH, Texas, March 30, 2007) - Baylor All Saints Medical Centers announced today that Oriana Fabbri, R.N. was the February 2007 recipient of the DAISY Award. DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune SYstem. Founders of the DAISY Award, J. Mark and Bonnie Barnes and Ralph Faxel, sponsor of the Faxel Endowment for Nurses, made a surprise visit to Baylor All Saints to meet the February 2007 recipient.
Fabbri, works in the Intensive Care Unit at Baylor All Saints. "We are so pleased that Oriana was chosen for this award," says Lynda Heeps, clinical nurse manager of the Intensive Care Unit. "Her commitment to her patients really makes the unit shine. She is an integral part of our team."
One of Fabbri's peers stated "Oriana always puts the patient first. She is very mindful of their customs and emotional needs and culture. She is a great role model, mentor, and has such enthusiasm for nursing. She doesn't just see it as job, but as a calling. She frequently takes educational classes to broaden her knowledge about ventilators, EKGs and cardiac. She has aspirations to complete her CCRN certification and has taken review courses. She reads online nursing reviews and implements what she has learned into her practice."
The DAISY Award is a nation-wide program that rewards excellence in nursing. The award was created by the Foundation for the Elimination of Diseases Attacking the Immune SYstem and recognizes the clinical skills, extraordinary compassion and care exhibited by nurses every day. It is given monthly to an outstanding nurse in more than 100 hospitals across the United States. Patients, visitors, employees or physicians may nominate a deserving nurse.
The DAISY Foundation was established in 2000 by the Barnes family in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP) at the age of 33. Having been touched by the remarkable care, clinical skills and compassion demonstrated by nurses during Patrick's illness, the Barnes family made it their mission to recognize exceptional nurses around the country.
The DAISY Award is funded by the Faxel Endowment for Nurses. Ralph and Dee Faxel established the Faxel Endowment for Nurses through the All Saints Health Foundation. This fund provides scholarships, continuing education and certification assistance specifically for nursing.
