Treat Yourself to Wellness

Relax and renew at the L spa.

Relaxation and renewal should be part of everyone's wellness picture. When one thinks of a time for personal rebirth and renewal, spring comes to mind. That's why it's the perfect season to debut the brand new L Spa. The 2,500-square-foot day spa opened in March at the Baylor Tom Landry Health and Wellness Center.

"We have very busy lives, and most of us are more stressed than we should be," says Cindy Hartin, director of the L Spa. "Relaxation and renewal should be part of everyone's wellness picture."

L Spa services include massages, facials, body wraps and treatments, manicures, pedicures, hydrotherapy and hair styling.

Designed with a comfortable and "elegant minimalistic" décor, the spa features individual treatment rooms, a lounge, a changing area with showers and lockers, a special "relaxation room" and a multipurpose suite. Express services are available, as well as half- and full-day Essentials of Well-Being and Signature Services packages, which include use of the Baylor Tom Landry Fitness Center.

Not Your Typical Spa
The menu of services at the L Spa doesn't have a long list of specialized massages or facials based on specific styles or ingredients-and there's a good reason for that.

"Our approach is a little different from what you'd find at a typical day spa," Hartin says. "Our services, especially our facials and massages, are personalized." For example, special consideration is given to health issues, whether it's arthritis, fibromyalgia or diabetes. In fact, the spa will custom design packages of services to meet each guest's needs.

Time is set aside before the session begins to meet with the therapist about individual needs and even aromatic preferences. "It's all about understanding the client's needs and putting them first, rather than sticking to a preplanned menu of services," Hartin says.

"Our goal is to enhance our guests' overall wellness," she explains, "and we do that in an environment that is warm and inviting, with an educated and friendly staff willing to personalize our service so it best meets our guests' needs."

Spa to Go
The L Spa also brings services for well-being to inpatients at Baylor Dallas' downtown campus. Massages, manicures and pedicures are available to women who are antepartum and postpartum patients, as well as to all patients (with permission from the patient's doctor).

A neck and shoulder massage or a manicure is a nice break from the stress of being in the hospital, and it's a great way for new moms, or any of our patients, to treat themselves, Hartin says.
