Amputee Program

For persons with an amputation, tasks that used to be easy - cutting food, walking, writing, climbing stairs - can seem almost impossible. The patient and his family also face emotional, social, recreational, vocational and financial changes.

Patients participating in the Baylor Institute for Rehabilitation Amputee Program learn to solve problems they will encounter the rest of their lives such as personal adjustment, pain management, skin care, energy conservation, nutrition, prosthetic care, community re-entry and recreational adaptations.

Patients may benefit from an Adapted Driving Program. In this program, patients are taught how to drive in a specially equipped car or van. The individual will be assessed for their specific needs and the driving instructor can make recommendations.
