Baylor Spinal Cord Injury Patient Education

During your inpatient stay, we also work with you to help you understand how the injury has changed the way your body works and learn ways to manage these changes. You will also learn how to re-enter the community and access specialized services.

A comprehensive 5-week series of educational presentations and support groups are an integral part of the rehabilitation process. Educational topics include:
  • Assertiveness training
  • Assistive technology
  • Community resources
  • Driving/manual wheelchairs
  • Equipment and home modifications
  • Nutrition and fitness
  • Respiratory issues
  • Service dogs

A one-week course is also provided to help you better understand the physical issues related to your injury. Topics include:
  • Bowel and bladder management
  • Skin care
  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Surgical procedures related to a spinal cord injury
