Asthma and Pulmonology Research
Baylor has several active projects to further asthma and pulmonology research.
One project by the Martha Foster Lung Care Center shows that using a respiratory-care specialist with an internist to manage patients with breathing difficulties improves care and increases patient satisfaction and financial viability. The Center received $50,000 grant from Summerfield G. Roberts Foundation of Texas in the Spring of 2003 that funded a Dallas Independent School District grant to screen school-aged children for asthma and develop a treatment strategy.
The pulmonary rehabilitation team also recently presented results of an innovative water-based pulmonary rehabilitation program, which showed improved functional activity and quality of life for people with emphysema. Baylor has also participated in a national multi-center study for diagnosing pulmonary fibrosis.
