Hyperbaric Medicine Research

The Louise Gartner Center for Hyperbaric Medicine was established in 2001 with a $1 million gift from Mrs. Louise Gartner, a long-time Dallas resident and philanthropist.

Through the Center, physicians on the medical staff at Baylor are exploring research opportunities to help treat wounds that have not healed with conventional treatments, acute neurological conditions and acute ophthalmology conditions.

Also treated at the Center are patients in Baylor's limb salvage program, which includes limb preservation, limb lengthening, and restoration of function to damaged appendages. After a limb is repaired, the hyperbaric therapy is used for wound healing, prevention of infection and bone restoration.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is also beneficial in treating chronic bone infections and radiation injuries, carbon monoxide poisoning, decompression sickness, thermal burns, radiation tissue damage and compromising skin grafts. Find more information on a research study at Baylor.
