Baylor Features GreenLight PVP™ Laser to Treat Enlarged Prostate Conditions

Men who are experiencing benign prostatic hyperplasia (BHP) or enlarged prostate, now have another choice when it comes to treatment. Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas features the GreenLight PVP™ Laser procedure in addition to medication or the more traditional transurethral resection of the prostate, or TURP procedure, in which a portion of the prostate gland is removed.

The GreenLight PVP™ Laser is a minimally invasive procedure that causes vaporization of the prostate improving obstructive and irritative voiding symptoms. Many patients can see improvement within 24 hours. The majority of these procedures can be performed as a same-day surgery without the need for a catheter after the procedure.

"This is a major advance in treating BPH," says Josh Fine, M. D., a urologist on the medical staff at Baylor Dallas. "In the past, minimally invasive procedures sometimes took weeks or months for symptom relief; with the laser, many patients can see improvement within 24 hours."
