Stone Disorder Care at Baylor Dallas

Kidney stones are hardened mineral deposits that form in the kidney and cause symptoms in the kidney, ureter or bladder. These stones can cause severe pain as they pass out of the kidney and block the flow of urine. Men are more likely to experience kidney stones and they often occur with more frequency starting at age 40. Once you develop a stone, you are also more likely to have a recurrent problem.

While stones in the urinary tract are not as common as kidney stones, 95 percent of urinary tract stone incidents occur in men. These are usually caused by another urological problem such as a urinary tract infection or enlarged prostate.

Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas helps men with stone issues by helping to reduce the symptoms and complications. Treatment may include medications and surgical removal. We also offer lithotripsy, a non-invasive procedure that uses ultrasonic or shock waves to break up the stones.
