Urinary Stone Disorders in Women and Baylor Dallas

If you experience kidney or bladder stones, you know how painful they can be. Kidney stones form from crystals that separate from the urine and build up on the inner surfaces of the kidney. These stones can cause severe pain as they pass out of the kidney and block the flow of urine. Although men are more likely to experience kidney stones, once you develop a stone, you are also more likely to have a recurrent problem.

Bladder stones are not as common as kidney stones and are relatively rare in women. These are usually caused by another urological problem such as a urinary tract infection.

Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas offers treatment options for women with stone disease to help reduce the symptoms and complications with medications and removal. In addition to surgical removal, we also feature lithotripsy, which uses ultrasonic or shock waves to break up the stones.
