Bobbi Sheahan

Bobbi Sheahan was overweight all her life. But that never stopped her from having a successful career as an attorney and meeting and marrying "the man of my dreams," she said. But after two pregnancies that were high risk because of her 300-pound weight, she stopped considering her weight a cosmetic issue and realized her health was at stake.

"My BMI (body mass index) was 48-1/2 and 40 is considered morbidly obese," she said. "My pregnancies were life threatening to me and kids because of my obesity. It was a big wake-up call. I came to understand after my second child that I was looking down the barrel of a loaded gun and probably being disabled within a decade and significantly shortening my lifespan because I was morbidly obese.''

Bobbi threw herself into researching obesity surgeries and facilities and chose Baylor. "Everyone is very educated on what it takes to be successful," she said. "They understand and explain throughout the entire process that this is a huge lifestyle change. You have to change what you eat and how you take care of yourself. It's not just about having an operation and you are skinny. They help you understand that you have to be willing to change your life. They treat these procedures with all the seriousness they deserve. The entire staff wants us to be healthy."

Bobbi had Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery performed and one year later, is 140 lighter. She is running half marathons, works out five days a week and describes her health as "radiant." Although she tells others considering the procedure the recovery can be painful at times, it was well worth it and she would do it again "in a heartbeat."

"I have had a fantastic recovery and fantastic results," she said. "I am a very strong-willed person and losing weight was the one thing I had always failed at. Surgery helped me finally succeed. Now I am eating and living healthier and setting a better example for my children. I am leaving a legacy of healthy living for my family."
