Ernie's Appearance Center
Named for cancer survivor Ernestine Wayne, Ernie's Appearance Center opened in April 1996 in the Sammons Cancer Center as one of the first hospital-based boutiques in the United States.
Designed to assist cancer patients with the cosmetic side effects of treatment, Ernie's offers wigs, scarves, hats, breast prostheses and mastectomy bras, as well as other specialized clothing, books and videos. Proceeds from the sale of items benefit cancer research at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas. The Center accepts Medicare.
Ernie's Appearance Center is a specialty boutique with products and services that minimize the cosmetic side effects of cancer therapy. In a warm, comfortable environment, you will have a one-on-one session and find out about:
- Hair alternatives for complete or partial hair loss, including wigs, hats, head wraps, and scarf-tying techniques
- Breast prostheses
- Mastectomy bras, camisoles, swimsuits, and other specialized clothing
- Compression garments
- Sun-protective clothing
