Pain Management

The Baylor Center for Pain Management serves residents of Garland, Richardson, Plano and the surrounding communities.

The Baylor Center for Pain Management offers treatment for:
  • neck and low-back pain from disc herniation, degenerative arthritis and degenerative disc disease
  • chronic headaches
  • arthritis pain
  • fibromyalgia pain
  • chronic gastrointestinal pain, such as irritable bowel syndrome
  • shingles pain and post-herpetic neuralgia
  • nerve injury pain
  • diabetic neuropathy pain
  • reflex sympathetic dystrophy pain (complex regional pain syndrome)

This new facility offers a complete array of pain-management techniques from experienced personnel in one convenient location, says Elaine Ganter, administrative director, anesthesiology and pain management, Baylor Health Care System. Robert F. Haynsworth Jr., M.D., a board-certified pain management specialist on the medical staff at Baylor Medical Center at Garland, serves as medical director of the Baylor Center for Pain Management.

We are here to help patients with chronic pain achieve and maintain a comfortable quality of life by regaining their physical function and overcoming the psychological disabilities that result from chronic pain, he says.

The Center treats chronic and acute pain caused by a wide variety of conditions. The clinical staff have extensive experience in this field of medicine and utilize advanced pain management strategies, including:
  • nerve blocks
  • implantable stimulation devices
  • stress management and relaxation techniques
  • counseling
  • medication management
  • rehabilitation, including physical and occupational therapies

Our goal is to use current technologies to decrease pain and suffering, while trying to minimize use of narcotic medication, Dr. Haynsworth says. While many pain centers offer single treatments, such as nerve blocks or physical therapy, very few offer multidisciplinary, comprehensive treatment for chronic pain, Ganter says.

Also, the Baylor Center for Pain Management is one of only a few pain centers in North Texas accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities.

Patients may make appointments directly or through physician referral.
