From early screening to diagnosis to treatment to recovery, Baylor Medical Center at Irving provides a wide range of services that offer hope in winning the fight against breast cancer.

Early detection is an important step in the diagnosis of breast cancer.
  • Mammograms
  • Breast Ultrasound
This procedure is used to further evaluate breast abnormalities such as lumps or abnormalities seen on a mammogram. Ultrasound uses painless soundwaves to help determine if a lump is solid or cystic.
  • Breast Biopsies
During this procedure, all or part of the tissue is removed from a suspicious growth or lump and examined under a microscope to determine whether or not it is cancerous. Although 80 percent of all biopsies are benign, it is the only way to know with certainty if a cancer is present.
  • Radiation Therapy
Radiation is used after surgery to stop any remaining cancer cells from growing. New technology enables specialists to treat specific areas with pinpoint accuracy and deliver increased dosages of radiation without harming healthy tissue and organs. The Cancer Center utilizes medically advanced equipment and technology to carefully and precisely deliver radiation to the target area.
  • Manual Lymph Drainage
This is a safe, non-invasive treatment that detoxifies and drains excess fluid from the tissues, alleviates pain, enhances the immune system, helps the body to heal more quickly and minimizes the formation of scars. It is utilized to treat swelling of the breast, upper and lower extremities secondary to surgery and/or radiation therapy. Our staff of therapists are certified to perform this effective treatment.
  • Genetic Counseling
Genetic testing can help determine a personal level of risk in developing certain cancers by identifying high-risk families.
  • Massage Therapy
We understand the stress that can occur with the realization and treatment of breast cancer. Massage therapy can help reduce this stress and tension, which can help the body during its healing process. This service is offered in the Cancer Center by a therapist that is trained in treating cancer patients.

Our Support System
  • Cancer Center Resource Room
Sponsored by the American Cancer Society, our resource room features a variety of brochures, books and videos to help patients and their families learn as much as they can about treating the disease, and what lies ahead. There are also a wide variety of wigs available to patients.
  • Bosom Buddies
We host a breast cancer support group that meets the 2nd and 4th Thursday of every month from 7-8 p.m. at the Cancer Center. Bosom Buddies offers patients hope, peer support, understanding and a safe place to vent their emotions. We also offer one-on-one patient counseling by volunteer breast cancer survivors.
  • Transportation
Thanks to the generous support of area businesses, we can provide free shuttle service to and from radiation treatments for patients who have no means of other transportation. We can shuttle patients as far away as Arlington, Lewisville, Grapevine, Ft. Worth and West Dallas.
